“One of the things Helen’s story really showed us is that the Trump Administration never stopped separating children from their families,” Morales Rocketto said. “In fact, they’ve doubled down, but it’s even more insidious now, because they are doing it in the cover of night.”
This is what Republicans have created, a nation that willfully destroys the lives of families with young children. The GOP stands profoundly against life.
The Bad Girls Bible is an online guide to sexuality, primarily geared toward women but valuable for men as well. It’s worth a look whether you’re looking to improve some aspect of your sex life, explore sex techniques, or are just curious.
This Nib comic does an excellent job of explaining the origin and history of hysteria. Everyone should learn this history because hysteria is an accessible and profound example of the harm patriarchy does to all of society: men, women, and children.
Anyone who supports Trump needs to answer for his character. If they claim to support him for religious or moral reasons, they’re too delusional to be reached and you should walk away to save yourself time and frustration.
The #MeToo Movement is both necessary and good and I do what I can to support it. To succeed, we need to ensure we value balance and exercise empathy in every action taken in its name. Already we’ve seen many attacks on public figures based on questionable or no evidence, and that needs to stop.
We also need to address the failure of some to see that women are not monolithic in their opinions and ideals on this issue. In her Washington Post essay, Mona Eltahawy illustrates a failure to understand that women might have different opinions of where the balance line is between flirting and sexual misconduct. Catherine Deneuve and the other signatories are not claiming the #MeToo movement is unnecessary, only that it has unfairly harmed some men and risks damaging the sexual freedom women have worked so hard for by inflicting a puritanism undesired by the majority of women.
Understanding and working to communicate and bridge differences is hard work and humans are often bad at it. History shows that we often run a little amok when first experiencing hard won power and freedoms. But this is not an issue we can afford to let run amok. We need to have a discussion of where to draw the line between acceptable and unacceptable behavior – at home, at work, in circumstances of unequal power, … – so we create a fair and sustainable society that grants women and men what they need to live well.
A more accurate headline for this reporting would read, “White religious extremists demonstrate against women’s rights.”
These women and their beliefs bear little resemblance to the Jesus Christ of the Gospels and stand opposed to his core teachings. They are Christian in the same way that Islamic State is Muslim.
These women are grossly misled or willfully ignorant about feminism: “For years, the feminists lied to us,” Christian author Lisa Bevere shouted from the stage. “They said for us to be powerful as women, we needed to act like men.”
Those gathered are willfully ignorant of the founding principles of the United States and demonize Obama: Linda Shebesta of Burleson, Texas – “We believe our nation was founded as a Christian nation. The enemy is trying to take it in another direction, not Christianity,” she said. She saw lots of proof of Satan at work during the Obama administration. “We believe God put Donald Trump in,” Shebesta said.
I’m thankful that the white Christian majority is getting weaker with each passing year and, provided the US survives another century, there’s nothing the GOP or these hateful Christians can do to stop the progress of the United States toward becoming a more diverse, loving, and just nation.
