If you’re interested in the Incel movement, it’s worth reading this surprisingly thorough coverage of a surprising (to me) aspect of the Incel movement. The author also covers the virulent misogyny inherent in this movement and helps the reader gain insight into the origins of this hatred.
A Christian minister named Dave Barnhart wrote the powerful statement below, exposing the bad faith of the US right wing pseudo-Christians.
“The unborn” are a convenient group of people to advocate for. They never make demands of you; they are morally uncomplicated, unlike the incarcerated, addicted, or the chronically poor; they don’t resent your condescension or complain that you are not politically correct; unlike widows, they don’t ask you to question patriarchy; unlike orphans, they don’t need money, education, or childcare; unlike aliens, they don’t bring all that racial, cultural, and religious baggage that you dislike; they allow you to feel good about yourself without any work at creating or maintaining relationships; and when they are born, you can forget about them, because they cease to be unborn…You can love the unborn and advocate for them without substantially challenging your own wealth, power, or privilege, without re-imagining social structures, apologizing, or making reparations to anyone. They are, in short, the perfect people to love if you want to claim you love Jesus but actually dislike people who breathe.
Prisoners? Immigrants? The sick? The poor? Widows? Orphans? All the groups that are specifically mentioned in the Bible? They all get thrown under the bus for the unborn.
I’m still surprised at people’s ability to delude themselves to justify their hatred. This phenomenon appears far more common on the right, but #NeverBernie partisans like this show the left is also capable of deluding themselves to justify their worldview.
The Five-Year-Old Who Was Detained at the Border and Persuaded to Sign Away Her Rights
From the New Yorker story:
“One of the things Helen’s story really showed us is that the Trump Administration never stopped separating children from their families,” Morales Rocketto said. “In fact, they’ve doubled down, but it’s even more insidious now, because they are doing it in the cover of night.”
This is what Republicans have created, a nation that willfully destroys the lives of families with young children. The GOP stands profoundly against life.
Fire these cops. A suspension and loss of a week’s pay is nothing. They’ve proven they’re unfit for public service. Their continued employment is a statement by their superiors that they accept hatred and white supremacy in their ranks. A non-racist government would go back through their cases and look for evidence of police misconduct.
The American Civil War Was Fought Over Slavery. To claim otherwise is willful ignorance or malice.
Idiots like this man don’t just harm themselves by their beliefs and behavior. They perpetuate one of mankind’s greatest evils, the belief that men are unequal in kind and that a greater man may rightfully hold another lesser man in slavery and use him as he sees fit. Refusing to acknowledge the cause of the Civil War and the evil for which the Confederacy fought is refusing to acknowledge that slavery is a great evil, one that was (mostly) destroyed in the Civil War but continues to live in the minds of men like this.
This refusal to confront and accept the reality of slavery and racism and the century spanning harm it has done and continues to do to human beings the world over makes it possible for men like Hitler and Trump to rise to power. These grotesque caricatures of human beings are acceptable only to those so steeped in hatred and denial that they see the most vile examples of humanity as their saviors, simply because those men promise to grant them the power they feel owed by their race and birthplace.
The state documents of secession are available and specifically call out slavery as the reason for secession. Only South Carolina even tries to be fancy about it, but their document too eventually gets to the core issue – slavery.
This Nib comic does an excellent job of explaining the origin and history of hysteria. Everyone should learn this history because hysteria is an accessible and profound example of the harm patriarchy does to all of society: men, women, and children.
