The Washington Post reports on the rapid rise and even faster fall of a Trump partisan whose primary marketable trait was loyalty and a drive to please his masters. Undoubtedly some will feel sympathy for a young man who thought he was living his dream life, only to see it come crashing down due to serious but arguably youthful mistakes. I feel some sympathy toward him, but that sympathy is overpowered by seeing what he did to help himself and his party.
Once appointed to Trump’s team, Weyeneth worked as a Soviet style political officer, loyal only to his party and employed to spy on and exercise control over civil servants. Weyeneth and those like him are the weapons used by demagogues like Hitler and Trump to destroy democracies. He served Trump and his party, not our nation, and he deserves only contempt.
